Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently mistake it for an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is commonly known as the place where she was born. But she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For Brugel, it was her drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. Teacher who recommended she try getting a part in the the school's annual show. After a few auditions, she ended up as the lead actress in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. In the last 20 years, her roles on television and the big screen have been varied. The role of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel, the only Canadian on the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
